How It Works

A moving thunderstorm gathers a pool of positively charged particles along the ground that travel with the storm. As the differences in charge continue to increase, positively charged particles rise up taller objects such as trees, houses, and telephone poles.

The negatively charged area in the storm will send out a charge toward the ground called a stepped or downward leader. When the downward leader gets close to the ground it is attracted by positively charged objects and a channel develops. You see the electrical transfer in this channel as lightning. There may be several return strokes of electricity within the established channel that is seen as flickering lightning.

Services

Design

We will design and your custom solution according to current UL96 or NFPA780 specifications. We require all products to be UL listed for lightning protection. We also take care to install your lightning-protection system in a way that minimizes the visual impact on your structure.

Inspections

Your Lightning Protection system needs to be examined and certified by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc to receive a UL Master Label. Be sure your installer is listed by UL and that a Master Label application is submitted to UL for your Master Label. Surge Protection is also required on electrical service and low voltage systems to receive a UL Master Label. A lightning protection system with a UL Master Label is good for 5 years, please contact us today at (615)200-7857 or email us at sales@TennesseeLightningProtection.com to make repairs and apply to UL for re-certification.

Risk Assessment

The current standard UL96 and NFPA780 requires a detailed risk assessment to be carried out to determine what level of protection is required to protect your building. Tennessee is in the second-highest flash density zone. Protecting your electronic equipment with surge protection and lightning rods from Tennessee Lighting Protection for structures is an investment in downtime prevention to protect from monetary loss.
